Across the globe, Ashoka - the world’s largest network of social entrepreneurs, now with nearly 4,000 Ashoka Fellows across more than 90 countries – is seeing a growing number of social entrepreneurs deploying legal strategies to preserve human rights in the digital age. They pursue strategic impact litigation; design and advocate for changes in legislative and regulatory policy; investigate, document, and publicize abuses of human and civil rights through technology, and mobilize communities through movement lawyering to enforce more accountability and transparency from government and the private sector alike.
Through the Tech Law Lab, we build partnerships with law firms, law schools and policy makers to expand on this work and speed up the rate at which our laws are able to anticipate, mitigate and manage the consequences of algorithmic bias, surveillance technology, “fake news,” and more.
